The winners for the annual BWAA Amateur Writing Contest were announced on June 28, 2011 at the BWAA Convention held in Grapevine, Texas.  There were many talented writers who entered this year's Amateur Writing Contest.  The following are the winners of each of the three categories.

2012 BWAA AMATEUR WRITING COMPETITION

 

This writing competition is designed for BWAA members who are not compensated for their stories. The writing awards committee will determine eligibility and announce the winners during the BWAA social event in Reno, Nevada in late June.  Winners will notified of the exact time and place of the presentation.


2012 BWAA WRITING COMPETITION RULES. -  IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ COMPLETELY

 

1)       Postmark deadline for entering the 2012 BWAA Writing Competition is March 15, 2012.

 

2)       Editorial, Feature, and Event Coverage submissions must have been published or broadcast between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011. Entries must be original clippings from the respective publication; printouts from materials published on Internet Web sites, and/or tape or CD of materials from radio or television.  When possible please include a printed copy of your article, excluding a byline, to submit for judging.  Mail entries to committee chair at the address below.   In addition, a copy of the article must be emailed to the committee chair, using the same deadline.

 

3)       Entry guidelines for the three BWAA categories are
a. FEATURE: A non-fiction story concerning tenpin bowling.
b. EDITORIAL: Any opinion expressed in the media concerning a tenpin bowling related subject.
c. EVENT COVERAGE: Any event article that was published within 45 days of the event.

 

4)       Certificates will be awarded to the best three articles in each division.  First place stories will be posted on the official BWAA Web site, www.bowlingwriters.com.

 

5)       Entries should be un-mounted, clearly identified as to author and include the name and date of publication. Author's name and mailing address must be included with the entry. Entries will not be returned.

 

6)       Entries are limited to two per author in each division.
